Recommended Leaf Spring To Replace Broke Spring On Tandem Axle Trailer W/ 5000lb Axles
Question:
I have a 5000lb tandem axel trailer and broke a leaf spring what pound would each leaf spring be ?

Expert Reply:
More than likely your trailer would use a 5300lb leaf spring like the 6-Leaf Double-Eye Spring for 5,300-lb Trailer Axles - 24-7/8" Long # SP-222275. As long as the rating of the spring matches or slightly exceeds your 5000lb axle rating you will not have an issue, but you will need to confirm the length of your current spring.
The # SP-222275 measures 24-7/8" long from center of spring eye to center of spring eye as shown in the included diagram, so if this matches your current leaf spring this would be a great option. When measuring your current leaf spring you will want the trailer off the ground with no weight on the springs or they will stretch and give you an inaccurate measurement.
Keep in mind you should not replace only one leaf spring, and should replace them in pairs.
If you find your leaf spring is a different length just let me know.
I included a video of the # SP-222275 for you to take a look at.
