We can get your 2012 Ford Edge set up to flat tow behind your motorhome, and you'll need a number of different parts to do this - base plates, a tow bar, safety chains, wiring, and a supplemental braking system. I'll go over the parts you'll need for your 2012 Ford Edge, starting with the base plates.
The correct base plates for your '12 Edge are going to depend on if it has the EcoBoost engine and adaptive cruise control or not.
With or Without EcoBoost Engine - Without Adaptive Cruise Control
- Roadmaster Crossbar-Style Base Plate Kit # 4408-1
- Roadmaster Falcon All Terrain, Non-Binding Tow Bar # RM-522
- Roadmaster 64" Single Hook, Straight Safety Cables # RM-645
Non-EcoBoost Engine - With or Without Adaptive Cruise Control
- Blue Ox Base Plate Kit # BX2628
- Curt Rambler Steel Tow Bar for Curt and Blue Ox Base Plates (Includes Safety Chains) # C26FR
The next thing you will need is wiring in order to activate your Ford's tail lights and brake lights, and there are two options here. What you can do is either hardwire in a wiring kit, or use magnetic lights to bypass hardwiring.
- Roadmaster Universal Hy-Power Diode Wiring Kit # RM-154
OR
- Heavy Duty Magnetic Tow Lights # TL21RK
Next, you'll need a supplemental braking system, and I recommend a portable system that does not require a permanent install in your vehicle, the Brake Buddy Classic 3 Portable Supplemental Braking System # HM39494.
Finally, you may also need a high-low adapter such as # RM-070 in order to keep your tow bar level, and I've added a link to a help article which shows you how to determine if you need an adapter, as well as a link to our selection of adapters.
Additionally, I have added links below to instruction manuals, video reviews and installations for you to take a look at.
