Improve Jayco Tandem Axle Trailer Ride With Shock Absorbing Upgrades

Question:

I have a Keystone 29RKPR travel trailer and I have upgraded the tires and these are much harder tires than what came with the trailer and are rattling the heck out of the trailer and its contents when towing. What would be my best options to help soften the blow from road bumps and such.

To improve your trailers rough ride and absorb road shock I would start by replacing your trailers equalizers with a shock absorbing equalizer system.

The Equa-Flex Cushioned Equalizers part # LC279687 is designed for tandem axle trailers with axles capacities ranging from 3,000 - 6,000 lbs. In order to determine if they will work for you, you will need to measure the equalizers you currently have on your trailer. The most important measurement to take note of is the distance between the two bottom bolt holes. This distance between the bottom two bolt holes on the above equalizer is 5-1/2" on center. If you have 5-1/2" between the the bottom two bolts on your current trailer then these equalizers will work well for you. Depending on the distance from the top and bottom bolt holes, the equalizers may also lower or raise the trailer.

I have attached a photo for you that shows the correct measurements needed to replace your existing equalizers. Once you can provide me with the A, B, C, D, and E measurements I would be happy to confirm fitment for you or provide you with alternative solutions.

What I recommend is getting all of the necessary bolts, shackle straps and nuts with one kit that is designed to work with the Equa-Flex, the Lippert Components Tandem Axle Equa-Flex AP Kit # LC64FR. If your current bolts are fine you could reuse them.

If you want still more shock absorption you can additionally add the Roadmaster # RM-2450 Comfort Ride shock absorbers for Tandem Axle Trailers with 2-3/8" diameter axles. User must check for necessary clearance between the brake housing and trailer frame.
