Recommended 5th Wheel Hitch And Pin Box For Towing 5th Wheel Trailer With 2021 Ram 2500 Short Bed
Question:
I am new to RVing. I have a 2021 Ram 2500 shortbox. I want to use my puck system for a gooseball hitch. I am looking at the Reese Goosebox. If I add a 4inch extension gooseball to move it toward the rear, will that make a noticeable difference in my turning capability? Are there unintended conequnces here? I am also considering an Anderson option with a Reese 5the Airborne option. Thanks

I have another option for you, but using a Reese Goosebox like the Reese Goose Box 5th-Wheel-to-Gooseneck Air Ride Coupler Adapter - Lippert 1621 and 0719 - 20,000 lbs # RP85FR and using a 4" offset gooseneck ball will not allow you to make very sharp turns without trailer to cab interference.
Instead I recommend replacing the pin box on your 5th wheel trailer with a rotating pin box like the Reese Sidewinder 5th Wheel King Pin with Rotating Turret - 20,000 lbs # RP34FR which moves the pivot point back 22" allowing you to make sharp turns without worrying about the trailer hitting your truck.
For the 5th wheel hitch, I recommend the Reese M5 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch - Single Jaw - 20,000 lbs # RP30928 with the appropriate wedge, part # RP44FR.
The Reese # RP34FR is designed to replace the Lippert 0719, 1621, 1621HD, 1716, 1116, and 0115 Pin boxes, the Fabex 663 and 665 Pin Boxes, and M&M 663 and 665 Pin Boxes so I will need the serial number off of your current pin box to recommend the correct rotating pin box for you.
I included videos for each of the products mentioned for you to take a look at.
