Can Spare Tire on 2013 Mini Cooper Hardtop Remain In Place with Curt C11272 Class I Hitch Installed

Question:

Hi, I have a 2013 Mini Cooper Hardtop manual transmission. Im interested in installing a trailer hitch so that I can tow a small trailer or mount a trailer hitch bike rack behind my car. It appears that some Mini trailer hitches do not allow you to retain the spare tire underneath the back of your car once the trailer hitch is in place. I saw the C11272 trailer hitch of yours which might work. Would you please confirm whether or not this hitch will allow me to keep my spare tire in place under the back of my car? thanks!

The Curt class I hitch you' mentioned, part # C11272 will fit your 2013 Mini Cooper hardtop as long as it isn't a specialty model like the S series or John Cooper Works.

I can not only confirm that you'll be able to retain your spare tire, I can prove it with a photo from the installation instructions showing the hitch installed and the spare tire still in place. Per the instructions, you might need to reposition the tire slightly, but you'll still be able to carry it under the rear of the vehicle.

As a final note, this is a pretty challenging installation. I've linked the installation instructions which show the procedure, but unless you're super-handy and have experience removing bumper fascia panels this might be a job you'll want to hire out. A body shop would be best suited to do the install for you, as they'd have plenty experience in removing and installing these parts without damaging them.

For trailer wiring, use C59236. For a ball mount, use # C45519 and # C40001 for a 1-7/8 inch trailer ball or part # C40018 for a 2 inch ball.
