A tow bar like the Tow Ready # 63180 connects to the towed Wrangler with vehicle-specific base plates. These plates mount to the vehicle frame and provide two brackets for the tow bar arms to attach. An example of base plates for your vehicle is part # RM-521448-4 Roadmaster EZ4 Base Plate Kit. To attach this particular tow bar to this particular base plate, an adapter is required, part # RM-025. Please note that this TowReady tow bar is rated up to a maximum of 45 mph.

It is often preferable to select most or all mechanical components from the same manufacturer; this can avoid the need to purchase adapters required to mate parts from different companies.

Flat-towing a vehicle requires several components; these are outlined in the attached FAQ article. These include base plates, tow bar, safety cables, tow lights for the Jeep and usually a supplemental braking system. You will want to check state/local laws concerning flat towing a vehicle to ensure you are in compliance. I have also attached an FAQ article concerning supplementary braking systems. A video is included as well.

Since the 2010 Wrangler can be fitted with several different brands of bumper (such as Mopar, Rugged Ridge and Warn - and with accessories like winches) you will want to select a base plate kit appropriate for your particular Wrangler. You can use the drop-down menu on the base plate page for Jeeps, which is provided in the included link. At the top of the page you can select your vehicle style from the drop-down menu. If you prefer to give us the specifics for your Jeep we will be glad to research the correct parts for you. Please note that some base plate installations require temporary removal of some parts and may also require trimming/modification of the air dam, cowling and/or rock guard.

To give you examples of the items you will need we will assume you have the OEM bumper with no grille guards, winches, etc. The Roadmaster Base Plates, part # 1432-1, feature removable arms that keep your Jeep looking more like stock when you are not towing it. A good choice of tow bar is the Roadmaster Tracker, part # RM-020, which mates to these base plates without adapters. For safety cables consider the Roadmaster # RM-643, which have a vinyl coating to protect your tow bar from scratches. For towing lights I suggest easy-to-use magnetic lights, such as Roadmaster # RM-2120, which connect to your RV with a 4-pole flat connector. If your RV has a different type of connector just let us know and we can recommend the correct lighting kit.

Last we have the supplementary braking system that sits in your towed Jeep. The Blue Ox Proportional Braking System, part # BLU37TR, is a portable unit that is easy to install and operate. It includes a wireless remote control that plugs into the 12V outlet in the RV and a breakaway kit that automatically engages the brakes on the dinghy in the event of a tow system failure.

It is recommended that you consult your vehicle owners manual for any information regarding flat towing.
