How to Obtain Larger Crossbar Spread On a 2014 Subaru Outback Wagon
Question:
Greetings: I have a 2014 Subaru Outback wagon. Thinking of buying a Roofnest Sparrow tent on car top. The factory cross bars that swing out are too low to bolt in the tent. I need two cross bars that can be spaced 28-30 inches apart. The problem is that the side rails where the factory cross bars lay down. There is a space between the cross rail and side rail for only 26inches. The rest of cross rail is flush with the side rail with which is about 3.5 inches wide. There is a slight gap for several inches between the cross rail and the side rail in the flush position. Can the Malone Airflow 2 attach to that side rail to be 28 inches apart. If not, are there other cross bars that can be spaced the 28-30 inches apart on top of those side rails that are strong enough to hold the Roof Nest Sparrow platform? Thanks for the advice

The Yakima JetStream Crossbar System part # Y00425, part # Y53TR, part # Y00239 would be a great option for a 2014 Subaru Outback Wagon. It will provide you with a 30" crossbar spread which will be the most that's available.
Unfortunately, you won't be able to move any attachment points for the systems outside of what is recommended as these points are chosen based on the strong points of the roof. The systems that attach to the raised side rails all have a 20-21" spread.
