Torque for U-Bolts on 3,500 lb Trailer Axle

Question:

I am re-assembling my travel trailer axles and would like to check the torque on the axle U-bolts. Could you provide a recommendation for Dexter 3500# axles?

Expert Reply:

The torque of U-bolts for 3,500 lb axles such as the 95" long Dexter Trailer Axle Beam # 7359765 or 89" long Dexter Trailer Axle Beam # T3584F-EZ-8974 depends on the diameter of the U-bolts.

I have cut out a part of our help article on trailer suspension which shows the typical torque depending on the U-bolt size; for example, if you used the U-Bolt Kit for Mounting 3,500 lb, Round Trailer Axles # APUBR-1 you would torque the 1/2" bolts of this kit to between 45 ft/lbs and 70 ft/lbs.

I have added links below to these help articles on trailer suspension which I highly recommend checking out as they have a ton of really good info.
