How Can I Add a 7 Way Trailer Connector and Brake Controller to my 2015 Subaru Outback
Question:
Hi, I have a 2015 Subaru Outback with a torklift ecohitch hidden receiver installed. I’m trying to figure out what products I need to add a 7 pin connection to my setup. I saw a bracket that will enable it to be mounted next to the receiver so I think I’d like to go that route. I also need a brake controller and the 12V power cable. Can you recommend a 7 pin connection kit with the mount I mentioned above, a brake controller and the wiring I need. I’d like to route everything inside the car, so could you also comment on if you think this is the way to go?

To add a fully functional 7-way plug and brake controller you will need a basic 4-way to start. The Tekonsha T-One Vehicle Wiring Harness with 4-Pole Flat Trailer Connector part # 118467 is custom fit for you Outback and plugs right in.
With that you can add the Universal Installation Kit for Trailer Brake Controller part # ETBC7 this gives you your bracket 7 way and all wiring you will need to get the 7-way fully functioning. To attach the 7 way where you want it the No-Drill Mount for Electrical Mounting Bracket part # 18140 will be helpful.
For a brake controller the Tekonsha Prodigy P3 Trailer Brake Controller part # 90195 is one of my favorites. It is very reliable and very easy too use. It also helps troubleshoot any issues that may come up during your travels like the trailer plug disconnecting and such.
As far as routing all of your wires through the interior it can be done but it will require a lot more work that routing them outside the vehicle. I always go to the outside and haven't had any issues at all. I am just careful to avoid any areas that could potentially damage the wires.
I have linked videos on each of these to show the installation process for you on similar Outbacks.
