Hitch and Cargo Carrier for 5th Wheel Hitch to Carry Generator

Question:

I am searching for a cargo carrier that will attach to a Palomino Columbus Compass 5th wheel RV that has a ramp. I need to haul a decently heavy generator that weighs around 200 lbs. It will not fit in the truck with the 5th wheel hitch. Can you help me with this? Thanks in advance.

In order to carry your generator on the back of your 5th wheel, you will need a hitch so you can attach a cargo carrier. Assuming the ramp on your Palomino will allow the hitch, you can easily add one, the Adjustable Width Trailer Hitch Receiver for RVs # 13703.

You simply need to measure the frame to make sure it is between 22 and 77 inches wide outside-to-outside in order to install this hitch, which can then be bolted or welded on.

The hitch has a 350 lb tongue weight capacity, which is the amount of weight it can hold in accessories. So since your generator weighs 200 lbs you have plenty of capacity left over for your cargo carrier, and you need one with a fixed shank on the back of an RV, as well as the width and length to handle a large generator.

For that, I recommend the 24 inch wide x 60 inch log Curt Cargo Carrier # C18152.

This carrier has a 500 lb capacity which is enough for your generator and has raised rails which give you numerous tie-down points. The carrier will need to be mounted with the Anti-Rattle Trailer Hitch Receiver Lock # 63232, and for tie-downs for your generator you can use the CargoBuckle Cam Buckle Tie-Down Straps with S-Hooks # IMF12637.
