Can I Use the Yakima HoldUp Evo on a 2020 Jeep Wrangler

Question:

We currently have an Evo bike rack that fits on car and looking to buy a jeep wrangler. We bought an extension for my old rack for my sons car, and did not need it. Will we be able to use the hold up Evo bike rack with the hitch extension with the jeep using the extension?

I'll start out by saying that any time you use a hitch extender like the # C45791, you reduce the tongue weight capacity of your hitch by 50%. Depending on which year Jeep Wrangler you purchase, your tongue weight capacity is going to likely be 350-lbs (you'll want to confirm this in the owner's manual), so using a hitch extender would reduce that to 175-lbs total with bikes and carrier. The Yakima HoldUp Evo # Y02443 weighs 49-lbs, so you'll have roughly 126-lbs of bike you can carry on the rack, so there shouldn't be any issues as long as you're under this capacity.

The other thing to note is that you may not have any issues using the HoldUp Evo # Y02443 without the hitch extender since there is 12" from the center of the hitch pin hole to the closest part of the rack; the issue will be if you want to fold the rack up towards the back and potential interference with the spare tire.

At the end of the day, you really shouldn't have any issues with carrying the bikes with or without the extender.
