Safe Working Load For Transom Tie Downs
Question:
Is the tie down break strength based on 1 tie down or 2. For example my trailer weighs 1600 lbs. So if I buy 2 tie downs rated at 1200 each am I covered since total is 2400 which is greater than the trailer weight? Or do I need 2 tie downs both rated greater that the trailer weight. Thank you

The BoatBuckle G2 Retractable, Ratcheting Bow Tie-Down Strap - Steel - 43" Long - 833 lbs - Qty 1 # IMF14220 has a break strength rated individually. This has a break strength of 2,500 lbs but a safe working load limit of 833 lbs. You want to stay in the working load limit of the strap and not the break strength because that is the worst case scenario not the ideal. The safe working load limit is the safe zone you want to stay in so for 1600 lbs you would want 2 of these straps and for 2,400 lbs you would want 3 straps.
If you want the more basic transom straps I recommend the BoatBuckle Heavy Duty Ratchet Transom Tie-Down Straps - 2" x 4' - 833 lbs - Qty 2 # IMF14207 which are again rated individually for the 833 lb working load limit.
