What Causes Hitch Install Bolts Not to Line Up Properly
Question:
Received this from etrailer and tried installing this last night, got 5 of the bolts in, but the last one would not line up with the hole for the life of me. If looking from the top, its the forward-most right bolt. Its almost there but needs probably another 1/8th of an inch both latitude and longitude. This is with none of the other bolts torqued down - I tried to leave some play so the hitch can move around. This is also after I tried gently moving or kicking the hitch every which direction and pulling on it and wedging a small piece of wood between the hitch and the gas tank to try and get it there otherwise its even farther away. Any advice? Ill be trying again tonight and will be putting the hitch inside the house beforehand so that maybe the warmer air will help the metal expand, but beyond that all I can do is simply try the same thing again and hope it works.

Helpful Expert Reply:
Sometimes can end up getting bent in shipping which makes the install more challenging. Typically you can bend the hitch back as long as the paint doesn't end up flaking off or creasing as that would indicate fatigue. If the bend is small enough typically you can loosely install all of the hardware and once all of the bolts are started you can torque them down and the install will be good.
