Platform Versus Hanging Style Bike Rack for Class II Hitch on 2012 Nissan Rogue

Question:

Hello, I have a 2012 Nissan Rogue and just installed a 1 1/4inch hitch. I am a single mom with a womans bike and a step through kids bike for my son. Do you recommend a platform rack or hanging rack would need 2 adapter bars. It would also be nice to have room for a 3rd bike if we have a friend along, although the 3rd bike is not necessary.

Assuming your hitch is a Class II, the Thule DoubleTrack Pro you'd looked at, part # TH92BJ would be a good choice.

A platform rack will certainly be easiest to load, but if you wanted to carry more than 2 bikes you'll probably want to go with a hanging style rack because the larger platform racks can get pretty heavy and hard to handle for one person. The Yakima RidgeBack bike rack, part # Y02458 would allow you to carry that 3rd or even a 4th bike, if more than one friend tags along. You would need the adapter bars like # UB01 for the child's bike and for yours if it has a step-through frame.
