Echo Brake Controller Compatibility with 36 Foot Class A Motorhome
Question:
Im towing a car trailer behind my 2008 Newmar 36foot motor home and was wondering if the Echo Brake controller would work? I have air brakes on the motor home and electric brakes on the car trailer.

Typically, as long as the distance between the controller and the smartphone being used as the display isn't more than 40 feet apart, the # C51180 Echo would work. But because we're talking a 36 foot motorhome likely with at least one interior partition, Curt has told me in the past that the Echo wouldn't be a good choice for your application as they couldn't guarantee the wireless connection would be reliable.
Your best bet would be to use a hardwired controller like the Tekonsha P3, part # 90195. If your Mountain Aire is equipped with a factory 7-way, you'd also need a # 5506 install kit. The kit includes 25 feet of 10 gauge duplex cable, but in your case you'd need some extra wire. It's available as part # 10-2-1. You'd need enough length to run from the 7-way to the battery to the dash.
If you don't have a 7-way, you could use install kit # ETBC7 along with the extra wire mentioned above. You'd need to cut off the 4 pole connector on the included adapter and wire it directly into the taillight circuits on the coach.
