2007 Kia Sedona Trailer Wiring Converter Shows 12 Volts Going in But Nothing Coming Out

Question:

My 2007 Kia Sedona LX had a trailer wiring harness installed along with the towbar/hitch to add a 4pin connector. The wiring harness is similar to etrailer part #118410 including a powered taillight converter. The converter appears to be faulty. The other circuits appear to work properly except for the right turn signal. There are 12 volts going into the converter on the right turn signal wire, but there is no voltage coming out of the converter for the right turn signal. Is it possible that the converter is faulty? How common is it for this to happen? The converter is a sealed mold. So it cant be repaired if faulty.

You are describing a textbook example of a bad converter. The signal is correct going into the converter but not correct coming out that means that something is wrong inside the converter and it will need to be replaced.

This can be a common occurrence if a unit has been in service for a long time, if there was s short on the trailer, or some other electrical disturbance on the vehicle side. You will want to make sure that there are no shorts on the trailer by looking for nicks in the wiring and making sure the grounds are attached to clean and corrosion free bare metal surfaces.
