Recommended Replacement Brake Assemblies for Viking 2107 ST Pop-Up Camper
Question:
I have a 2000 Viking 2107 ST. The vehicles I would tow with say that they have the capacity IF there are trailer brakes. Axle rating is 2200 pounds. It looks to me that K23-103-104-00 would be the right product. I moved to a 145R80 with E load rating, still the same 4 bolt pattern. 2 questions: is this a DIY type project for reasonably competent person? and: is this the BEST brake you would recommend for the trailer? Thanks!

The American-Made Dexter # K23-103-104-00 brake assemblies would be absolutely the correct application for your Viking Pop-Up. The brake assemblies are compatible with 12 inch wheels used by your 145R80 tires.
The installation is pretty easy if you're moderately handy. The video I've linked for you will provide an overview of what's involved. The video shows a larger brake assembly being installed, but the procedure for a 7 inch assembly would be pretty similar. Really the only difference is that the 7 inch assemblies have the mounting studs integrated into the back of the brake assembly.
Since you're already pulling the hubs to replace the brake assemblies, you'll want to inspect and repack your wheel bearings. Also, take a look at the brake drums. If the inner armature surface that rides against the brake magnets is pitted or grooved, you'll want to replace the drums as well. For standard spindles, use # 8-173-16UC3 or # 8-173-16UC3-EZ for EZ-Lube spindles. The hub/drums includes the wheel bearings, races, grease seal, lug nuts and dust cap.
