Can 1/2 Inch Wheel Studs be Changed to 9/16 Inch Wheel Studs
Question:
1/2” factory wheel studs to 9/16” wheel studs. 1992 Featherlite 8110 livestock trailer. I am putting 8 x 6.5 Alcoa aluminum wheels on but the new wheels require 9/16 studs. I would like to know if I can just swap out wheel studs or do I need to replace hub/drum to 9/16 studs. I believe the trailer was equipped with 7k dexter torsion axles from factory. Thank you for your time!

It may be possible to change your studs from 1/2" to 9/16" so long as the studs are drive-in (as opposed to threaded); also, the length and knurl diameter needs to be the same. For example, the Kodiak Wheel Bolt - 9/16" Diameter x 2-1/2" Long # K916WB25 has a 0.685" knurl diameter.
So you do need to have some very specific measurements, otherwise you will need to change your hub to get that size wheel stud. I have added a link to a video review for you to check out as well as a link to our selection of 9/16" diameter, drive-in wheel studs.
