How to Bypass Factory Brake Controller on 2008 Chevy Silverado

Question:

I have 2008 Chevy 2500hd. On the dash I get BRAKE CONTROL NEEDS SERVICING. I have taken to dealer. They fixed it. But when I hit hard bumps in the road it comes on. Im done taking it to them due to damage they caused. I want to by pass the stock system and put in after market. I tow a 30ft 5th wheel and a 16ft utility trailer with a rzr and 2 bikes. I dont want my factory controller going out when towing this weight. What is a great controller to use that I wont have to worry about losing breaks? Wire in New controller and be done with it. I just purchased 4 leaf springs from you and they did exactly what I needed. Thank you for those

The best option for you to by pass the factory brake controller is the Tekonsha Prodigy P3 Trailer Brake Controller part # 90195 which has storable settings to save the brake settings for more than 1 trailer. Since you tow a 5th wheel and an utility trailer this is the most convenient option since you won't have to change the settings every time you tow. The Tekonsha brand controllers are very reliable and you won't have to worry about losing braking power with the P3. The brake controller will wire to a bundle of wires under the dash. I have attached a helpful article on how to find the wiring for your reference.
