Is Trimming or Cutting be Required to Install the Curt Trailer Hitch # 11438 on a 2011 Volvo V50 T5
Question:
I am concerned that I will have to cut into the body cladding on my R-Design Volvo V50 T5. The bumper trim extends lower than the non-R-design bumpers. Please let me know if this is true. Thanks

I spoke with my contact at Curt regarding the installation of the Curt Class I Trailer Hitch, # 11438, on your 2011 Volvo V50 T5 with the R-Design and he said they have not tested this hitch on a V50 with the R-Design, but if the rear bumper fascia sits lower than the non R-Design V50s, then you probably will have to cut into the fascia. The same goes with the Hidden Hitch and Draw-Tite trailer hitches that we offer for your vehicle.
To give you a better idea of where the receiver of this trailer hitch will be on your vehicle, you can measure from the mounting point of the trailer hitch (the bottom of the frame rail) down 4-1/2 inches. That will be the approximate distance between the top of the receiver and the frame rail. If your bumper fascia sits more than 4-1/2 inches below the bottom of your frame rail, then you will need to cut out a notch for the receiver.
If you are okay doing this, you could have the installation done at a dealer, auto shop or trailer hitch installer to have an experienced professional do the cutting. If you wanted to perform the install yourself, then I would recommend holding the hitch up to the frame rails to get a good idea of where to make the cut.
Curt requires all hitch mounted accessories to be secured with a support strap like the Curt Trailer Hitch Support Strap, # 18050, in order to preserve warranty coverage.
