Troubleshooting Danger Notification and No LED Light on Curt Echo Brake Controller

Question:

Tried plugging it into my father in laws truck as well. The problem is with the echo, not the truck.

Sine the LED does not light up on your Curt Echo # C51180, that means there's no power getting through to it. Given the fact that the Echo was receiving power and working properly at one point, chances are you're dealing with a poor ground issue.

I would start by checking the power and ground circuits on your Ram's trailer wiring. These will be on the 1 o'clock and 7 o'clock positions, as shown in the attached diagram. You can use a 12V probe-style circuit tester, like # PTW2991 to check for function at the 7-Way plug. You mentioned no corrosion on the pins, but could one possibly be loose or bent? If needed, you can use # HM40975 as a direct replacement plug.

If the connector isn't the issue, inspect the wiring behind it for any damaged areas where copper is visible or any spots where the jacketing on the wire is broken and replace or repair as needed.

If you're still having the same issue after performing these steps, please let me know so we can continue to troubleshoot until the issue is resolved.

If you've tested the controller on two different vehicles with otherwise working 7-way connectors, then it does sound like there's an internal issue with the Echo. The good news is that it should be covered under its limited lifetime warranty. I wasn't able to find a purchase record attached to your email address in our system, so you'll want to contact whoever you purchased it from to see about getting the unit replaced.
