To tow a trailer this summer with your 2019 Ford Escape, you will need a hitch, ball mount with ball, trailer wiring and locking pin.
I recommend to use the etrailer Class III hitch part # e98866 because it is a concealed cross tube design with a nice matte finish. The cross tube is hidden behind the bumper so the only part of the hitch that is visible once installed is the receiver tube. I have added a photo for your reference. The matte finish design hides dirt, rust and dings on the hitch better then the other brands with a glossy finish. This will still allow you to use the hands free lift gate feature of your Escape. I have attached a video for you to take a look at.
For the wiring, I recommend to use Curt T-Connector Vehicle Wiring Harness with 4-Pole Flat Trailer Connector part # C95FR because the Curt installation instructions are easier to follow in my opinion. This will give you a 4-pole flat connector at the rear of the Escape to illuminate the trailer lights. If your trailer has electric brakes, please let me know and I can make recommend additional parts.
You will also need a ball mount, for that I recommend Draw-Tite Adjustable Ball Mount 6,000 lbs part # 6580 which allows for up to 7-3/8" of drop and 6-1/8" of rise depending on how much is needed to tow your trailer level. We do recommend to be within 2" of level to safely tow the trailer. I have attached a helpful article explaining how to find the rise or drop needed. You can use hitch ball part # 40038 with this ball mount.
Finally, I recommend to get a locking pin to protect your investments with part # FA86-00-3050.
