Equalizer vs Reese Strait-Line Weight Distribution System for 10K Car Hauler
Question:
Looking for your recommendation between the Reese RP66084 versus the Equal-i-zer EQ37101ET - just wondering. Both have excellent reviews. I like the Equal-i-zer style - or it fits my eye if you will. No experience with either. Comments? Empty trailer (2004 Pace America 20'x8' car trailer) weight is 3200lbs and tongue weight of 380lbs GVWR 10,000 lbs. Tow vehicle: 2004 GMC Sierra Denali.

Both systems are highly rated by our customers, but I do believe the Strait-Line is a better system. In terms of sway control, it offers the most advanced technology that works to fight sway before it even starts unlike the Equalizer that basically tries to minimize it as it's happening. Therefore, you'll inevitably experience some sway with the Equalizer before it corrects it but none with the Strait-Line.
Also, because the tongue weight range of the Strait-Line system # RP66084 is wider (between 600 lbs and 1,200 lbs), it would be the smarter choice for your car hauler set-up in particular since the loaded vs unloaded tongue weight can vary so much. For a 2-5/16 inch ball you can use # 19286 or # A-90 for a 2 inch ball.
There is one advantage I'll give the Equalizer # EQ37101ET , which is that it offers the maximum amount of ground clearance because the frame brackets mount around the frame rather than below the frame like the Dual Cam sway control of the Strait-Line system, but unless your trailer is super low to the ground, I'd go with the Strait-Line hands down.
