Best Way to Secure Loose Straps on Hollywood Racks Over-the-Top 2 Bike Carrier

Question:

I just received this bike rack and am very impressed by its quality. The straps are way too long for my vehicle. I know there are some velcro ties and have seen others mention using zip ties. Do you have any suggestions for tying down the loose ends so they dont flap around? What about cutting some of the excess off. I realize that might limit their use if I decide to put it on a different vehicle.

Glad to hear that you are already enjoying the Hollywood Racks Over-the-Top 2 Bike Carrier # HRF2 for your 2020 Subaru Forester!

While using Velcro or zip ties are viable solutions, I recommend using the Strap Keepers for Yakima Trunk Mounted Bike Racks # Y8890154 instead. These come in a quantity of 4 and are essentially like rubber bands that stay on the straps of your bike rack so you don't have to keep track of them. These are a higher quality than a standard rubber band though as they were designed for use on higher-end Yakima trunk mount bike racks. We have some Yakima racks that these have been on for a number of years now and they are still in great shape.

I went out to our video department and saw that the straps for your Over-the-Top bike rack is the same size as the Yakima trunk bike racks so these will fit perfectly and you won't have to cut the straps on your bike rack so you still have the option to move it to a different vehicle in the future.
