Should The Demco 5th Wheel Adapter Rails Sit Flush On The Bed Of A 2020 Chevy with OEM package

Question:

I recently purchased a Demco 5th wheel rail kit to fit the 2020 Chevrolet 2500 with the factory prep package. I, like many, had to loosen the bolts in order to get it to fit. My question is, should the rail kit fit flush with the bed of the truck? With the arms in the locked position, the rails sit above the bed by a half inch. The arms are in the locked position and the rails seem to be solid enough but it concerns me that the rail assembly is so far above the bed. Is this normal? Uh, I dont mean is my concern normal but is the positioning normal. Thanks

Helpful Expert Reply:

I did contact Demco directly and they confirmed that is normal for the rail assembly to be above the bed using the Demco 5th Wheel Rail Adapter for Chevy/GMC OEM 5th Wheel Towing Prep Package # DM6333. The way the manufacturers designed their puck systems is for the bulk of the pulling load to be on the pucks. The adapter accomplishes this while sitting on the bed so that the bed is not crushed and the weight is focused on the pucks instead.
