Using A Hitch Extender/Reducer With A Weight Distribution Shank To Gain Clearance
Question:
I am concerned that with this shank alone my propane tanks on my travel trailer will still contact my tailgate when lowered and turning corners. Would it be acceptable to use this shank along with the Brophy hitch extender HR26 to get extra clearance? I am towing a 8200lb travel trailer with a 2017 F250 Diesel with a 2.5in receiver rated for 15,000lbs. Thanks.

Using the Brophy Hitch Reducer and Extender - 2-1/2" to 2" Trailer Hitch # HR26 extension will reduce your hitch's weight capacity by one third so if it will be more like 10,000 instead of 15,000 in this application with the Equal-i-zer Weight Distiribution Shank # EQ90-02-4500. I wouldn't recommend using the extension but instead think the 18" weight distribution shank should be sufficient. Included is a customer image using this solutions as an example.
