The Tuson DirecLink Base Model Trailer Brake Controller part # 335DL-100 will work on a 2020 Subaru Outback. However, it would require you to splice into the vehicle which is not what I recommend. Instead, I recommend the Curt Echo Mobile Trailer Brake Controller part # C51180 which is plug and play so no splicing is required. In order to use the Curt Echo, you will need the T-One Vehicle Wiring Harness part # 118467 with the 7-Way RV Upgrade Kit for Trailer Brake Controller Installation part # ETBC7L if you don't already have a 7-way which is required for a trailer with brakes.
Once you plug the 4-way harness into the back of the tail lights, all you need to do is plug the adapter in, run a wire to the battery for power which you will need to do for the 4-way anyhow, and then secure the ground. This makes for a splice free install therefore keeping the vehicle 100% stock.
