Congratulations on your new Forester! We have a couple of really good hitches available for you. My favorite and our most popular is the EcoHitch Hidden Trailer Hitch Receiver - Custom Fit - Class III - 2" part # 306-X7391 this hitch is a really nice looking hitch when installed because it has a hidden cross tube so all you see after installation is going to be the receiver tube opening. This really helps to maintain the aesthetics of the vehicle. It is a little more difficult to install than the other available hitches but worth it. You only install it once but have to look at it everyday that's why it's my top choice. For a hitch that is easier to install I recommend Draw-Tite Max-Frame Trailer Hitch Receiver - Custom Fit - Class III - 2" part 3 76271 this hitch is comparable in every way and will give you the same performance however it has an exposed cross tube as you can see from the pictures it changes the looks of the vehicle quite a bit. Both are good choices it is up to you on the look you're after.
If you are going to be hauling a trailer or using a cargo carrier consider the Tekonsha T-One Vehicle Wiring Harness with 4-Pole Flat Trailer Connector part # 118467. This will give you a working 4 flat trailer light connector at the rear of your vehicle for use when needed. It is a very easy installation and Tekonsha proves to be the most reliable wiring harnesses out there. This is a custom fit harness so there will be no cutting or splicing of your factory wiring. It simply plugs in and it is ready for use. The plug is located on the drivers side in your rear cargo area and if fairly easy to get to. I've included videos of the different installs we have done here at etrailer with these products and the Forester so you can see the difference in the hitch installation process and also where to find the plug for your wiring. Happy Hauling!
