Brake Controller and Trailer Connector Recommendation for 2020 Subaru Outback
Question:
Hello, we are going to buy a 2020 Subaru outback XT which can tow up to 1500 kg if the trailer has brakes. I am wondering whether there are 7 way or 5 way connector kits available which could be used for this car? Thanks for answering

In order to install tow a trailer with brakes, you'll need to install a brake controller. From an installation standpoint, the easiest option to use would be the Curt Echo, part # C51180. To install the controller, you'll first need a 4-pole trailer connector, which would be provided by part # 118467. You'd then need the brake controller installation kit, part # ETBC7L which includes an adapter to convert the 4-pole connector to a 7-way. The adapter will need to be grounded to the vehicle frame, and one wire needs to be rain to the battery via the included 40 amp circuit breaker.
The Echo uses your Android (v 4.4 and up) or iOS (v 8.0 and up) smart phone as the display and control unit, so there's no need to run wiring to the passenger cabin, no need to splice into any wiring under the dash and no need to mount an unsightly box to the underside of the dash that you'll likely bang your knee on at some point.
I've linked you to an installation video for the trailer wiring harness and some product description videos explaining further how the Echo Brake Controller works.
