If your 2005 Dodge Ram 1500 came with a factory 4-Way or 7-Way trailer connector at the rear then yes, there is an OEM harness under the driver's side dash and to the right of the emergency brake pedal. Typically this should be blue but the color could vary. If you don't have a factory trailer connector at the rear of your vehicle then you'll need to hardwire everything.

The brake controller I recommend, if you don't already have one, is the Hayes-Lemmerz Energize III+ # HA81742B because it is a pretty cost-effective brake controller that is easy to use, made in the USA, and comes with a limited lifetime warranty so you can be confident you're getting a quality product. To install this on your pickup you will just need to choose from the following configurations:

Factory 7-Way - Adapter # HA81782-HBC
Factory 4-Way - Adapter # HA81782-HBC and Universal Wiring Kit # ETBC7
No Factory Connector - Pigtail # HA81789-HBC, Curt 4-Way # C55504, and Universal Wiring Kit # ETBC7

I have attached some installation and review videos as well as a helpful article about installing a brake controller on an older Dodge Ram pickup that you can check out. In the ETBC7 install video (on a 2001 Dodge Ram) the brake controller that is used is the Prodigy P2 # 90885. This is an excellent brake controller as well but it isn't quite as cost-effective.
