What is proper placement for this winch on a boat trailer?

On a boat trailer, you will need to position the Duton-Lainson winch, # DL25215, so that the loading ring on the bow of your boat is the same height or a little higher than the winch drum when the boat is loaded on the trailer.

You will need to us a winch stand or other mounting surface that is strong enough to support a load that actually exceeds the capacity of the winch. The instructions, which I have linked for you, actually cover mounting the winch in the first few pages.
