Can Trailer Wiring Harness for 2019 Ford Escape be Connected to 12V Power in Rear Cargo Area
Question:
I just purchased the t-one wiring kit for my 2019 Escape and most of the install seems easy enough but I'm wondering if it's really necessary to run the power wire all the way to the battery? I have access to the 12V circuit in the cargo area of my vehicle so could I use that instead?

The Tekonsha T-One Wiring Kit # 118802 is designed to bypass the OEM wiring circuits on your 2019 Ford Escape. Basically the trailer would pull power directly from your vehicle battery and the sections that tee into the connectors behind your tail lights are there to tell the converter when to send the signals along those circuits. Vehicle wiring systems are very expensive to repair and you don't want to mess with that due to a malfunction with your simpler trailer electrical system.
If you were to connect this directly to that 12V power source then you would not only be relying on your OEM wiring to power your trailer (which defeats the purpose of this kit) but you also run the risk of overloading the 12V circuit which can cause other issues. This is one of those cases where it might be more difficult but it is definitely better to follow the directions exactly since that is how the manufacturer has tested and approved this kit to be used.
Attached is an installation video of this kit on a '19 Escape and the written instructions for you to check out.
