Why Is the Curt Hitch for a 2020 Kia Telluride Rated Higher Than the Factory Hitch

I am looking to purchase the 2020 Telluride, and would like to tow a smaller travel trailer. I appreciate finding your site, as I did not realize there were so many considerations when towing a travel trailer. From what I see your kit allows for more tongue weight than the factory hitch, and a brake controller is a must. Where is the best place to have an aftermarket hitch and wiring installed? I myself would not be able to do this. Thanks in advance.

The Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver part # C13420 which is a fit for a 2020 Kia Telluride does have a 5,000 lbs gross trailer weight and 750 lb tongue weight rating. However, this is tested separately of the vehicle which is also rated for 5,000 lbs gross trailer weight but only 351 lb tongue weight so you will need to abide by the lower rating. This same principle would also apply to the factory trailer hitch. The main benefit you have going with an aftermarket hitch as opposed to a factory hitch is cost which can be two or three times as less in many cases.
