Will Hopkins Combo Plug Fit 2013 Ram 3500 and Troubleshooting Connector
Question:
I have a 2013 Ram 3500. First will this plug fit my truck 7- and 4-Pole Trailer Connector Socket w/ Mounting Bracket - Vehicle End Item # HM40975uck ,, My issue is I do not have any running lights on whatever I tow. My problem could be in my wiring or my existing plug. All other lights work like they are suppose to. Is there a way to check ohms or current to my plug ? Also, my plug shows which connector is for the lights, on your plug it seems to in a different location. Any help would be greatful. Thanks.

Yes, the 7- and 4-Pole Trailer Connector Socket w/ Mounting Bracket # HM40975 is the correct part to replace the factory 7-Way on your 2013 Ram 3500.
As far as troubleshooting wiring goes it is always best to start off by checking the fuses on your vehicle. I looked in the online owner's manual for your pickup and it looks like you need to check fuse locations F28, F29, F30, F53, and F81 in your power distribution panel (in your engine compartment). If those look good then your next step is to test the individual pins on your vehicle sockets with a circuit tester like part # PTW2992. I have attached some pictures to demonstrate what the correct pin-outs typically are for vehicle wiring that you can reference. This should let you know what wiring circuit you need to inspect the wiring for. Be sure to look for any damaged wires and that any grounds are properly connected to a clean, bare-metal surface.
If you are still having issues please let me know and I'd be happy to assist further. I have attached a helpful article on wiring troubleshooting you can also check out.
