Troubleshooting Tekonsha Prodigy P2 Brake Controller Sometimes Not Releasing Brakes
Question:
Intermittently my P2 brake controller will not release the applied brakes. I have a 2008 Silverado that I am using the controller in, and this condition happens with multiple different trailers. If I quickly tap the brake pedal it will release and everything is normal again.

The issue you're describing could be coming from a few possible areas, including the brake controller itself.
Since the trailer brakes are sticking with multiple trailers, we at least know the issue is somewhere on the truck side. What I first recommend doing is making sure the red wire from the Tekonsha Prodigy P2 # 90885 is still securely connected to the brake switch wire on the truck, or if you used a Plug-In Adapter Harness for installation, that the plugs are fully seated with each other. Check for any frayed/damaged wiring that needs to be replaced.
Next take a look at the 7-Way connector at the rear bumper of your Silverado. Look for any debris or corrosion that might be built up in/around the pins, cleaning out as needed. Sometimes corrosion can develop to a point that it bridges a couple circuits together or causes a short.
If all of this looks okay then the problem is likely an internal issue with the P2, and it will need to be replaced. Keep in mind that the Prodigy P2 does have a limited lifetime warranty.
