Will an Electric Trailer Brake Controller Affect the Brakes on a 2001 Chevy Express Van
Question:
My van has brake control, but I have never used it. So I would like to know if I use it, will it affect my van in any way? Also when I brake when it is raining I hear a noise coming from the van that sounds like metal scarping against each other, and all of my breaks are brand new so I would like to know if the brake control is the cause of this?

Expert Reply:
An electric trailer brake controller only receives electrical signals from the vehicle it is installed on so it would not affect the hydraulic brakes that are in vehicles like your 2001 Chevy Express.
A vehicle's brakes behave differently when they are wet and new brakes are likely going to slightly drag a little more until they get worn in a little. If you continue to have brake problems I would take the van to a brake shop and have them look at it. But I can tell you that the brake controller could not cause those problems.
