Does the brake light circuit activate the trailer brakes? Well, yes and no. It depends on if the vehicle is in motion or not. Let me explain a bit further....

When you're using a proportional brake controller like the Curt Echo, and you hit the brakes in the tow vehicle, here's what happens. Through a connection to the brake lamp wiring, the controller gets prompted that the brakes are being applied. Then, a decision has to be made. The accelerometer determines if the vehicle is in motion, and if so how quickly it's decelerating. The more quickly the vehicle is decelerating, the more voltage is sent to the trailer brakes. The full amount of power sent is contingent on how high the gain on the controller has been set. If the vehicle is not in motion, the trailer brakes won't apply.

I hope this helps, and was what you were needing to know.
