Timbren Axle Less Kit with 6 Lug Bolt Pattern for Off-Road Use
Question:
looking to build a trailer for my tacoma to tow.. i would like to use the same tires on my tacoma/vise versa.. looking for a 6x139.7 or 6x5.5 lug pattern that could accomodate the stock 4.5inch backspaced TRD OR 16inch wheels with a 33inch 255/85/16 or similar tire. I offroad, and plan to carry my RTT ARB SIMPSON III weighing about 170#, and approximately 300-500# of parts/tools/gear + fluids/gas.. I plan on the trailer being approximately 5x6 with a dry weight of no more than 1000# including tires. I would also like to include trailer brakes in this.. and something i could control from the cab of my truck via either a trailer brake controller, would be nice. not sure if electronic brakes would appreciate water crossings, and mud..

Since the plan is off-road tires for an off road trailer the best Timbren Axle Less kit system is the part # ASR35HDS02 which has a 4 inch lift built into it for better ground clearance and also is designed to allow for wider off-road tires as well. Then for a hub/drum with the bolt pattern of 6 on 5-1/2 inch that you need you'd also want the part # 8-201-9UC3-EZ.
For a set of self adjusting brake assemblies then you'd want the part # 23-458-459 which is a set for both sides. Electric brakes work just fine for boat trailers that get submerged all the time so they'd work great in an off-road application as well.
Last thing you need is a brake controller. You'll want a time-delayed controller since this will be used in off-road applications like the Redarc Tow-Pro Classic # 331-EBRHV2. Proportional controllers are not ideal in rough, off-road conditions as the bumps will trick the controller into thinking you are applying the vehicle brakes. A time delayed will apply a preset amount of braking regardless of what's going on so it's the better choice. The Tow Pro Classic is awesome for off-road applications also because of how small of a size it is mounted on your dashboard. See review video.
