How To Tow a Boat Trailer That Has A Reverse Lockout Using a 2020 Hyundai Palisade
Question:
I am considering purchasing a 2020 Hyundai Palisade SUV but have experienced some difficulty getting an answer on how I can get their 4-Pin factory installed trailer wiring to get working with a 5-Pin connector to enable me to use my boat trailer with surge brakes. My trailer will not reverse without the 5 Pin connector. One of the local trailer/sales/service company here indicated I needed a RV 7-Way -With Reverse. His concern was that it needed to be compatible with the current wiring of the 2020 Hyundai Palisade. Thanking you in advance for your help.

There are a few options here for you to tow your boat trailer and be able to backup with the trailer attached and the brakes not locking up. The most cost effective option is a wiring adapter, the Tow Ready 4 Pole to 5 Pole Trailer Wiring Adapter part # 20036. The downside of this option is that you have to splice into the factory reverse light wire on your vehicle. If you don't want to do this then you can either install a trailer coupler with manual lockout like the Brake Actuator with Manual Lockout part # T63FR or you can install a set of free backing braking assemblies (drum only) like the Demco Hydraulic Brake Kit part # 40716-15.
If you want to go with a new coupler I would need the weight of your boat/trailer and frame configuration but if you want new braking assemblies then I would need to know your axle capacity. I have attached a list of other parts you will need for towing with a 2020 Hyundai Palisade if not already equipped.
