Troubleshooting Reverse Lockout on Ranger Boat Trailer and 2017 Toyota Tundra
Question:
I have an old Ranger Boat Trailer and have been towing it with a 2008 Toyota Tundra. The Trailer has Hydraulic brakes but when I back down the boat ramp I have a connection to the reverse lights, it frees the cylinder, works like a champ. I recently purchased a 2017 Tundra and because I use both trucks hooked up the 2017 just as I did the 2008. The new Tundra system is hooked to the ground wire Black and White just as the 2008 and the hot wires is the Center Wire Green which matches the diagram as being the Reverse Light. My guess is I am not getting the same voltage because the Green Wire is small. PS I have not blown a fuse.

I recommend testing the reverse light wire (center pin) on your 2017 Tacoma's 7-way plug for 12 continuous volts to make sure it's hot. Using a tester like the LCD Digital Circuit Tester Item # PTW2993 will do the trick. You will need a second person in the cab of the truck who can put it into reverse. Of course, you want to make sure the emergency brake is applied, and the brake pedal is pressed prior to shifting into reverse.
If the pin isn't hot, you will need to follow the length of the wire and visually inspect for any damage and replace or re-splice if necessary. The easiest way is to use a quick splice connector like Item # SWC501915-1.
If this doesn't solve your issue let me know and we'll keep troubleshooting until we find a solution.
