Troubleshooting Several Trailer Wiring Issues with Very Corroded 7-Way

Question:

Can i ask one last question? I think i want to replace my 7 pin connector (you gave me a link to the part) - but I'd also like to have a 4 pin connector straight from the truck too. do you have a 7 pin / 4 pin replacement combo for a 2000 dodge ram 1500?

The picture of your 7-way is the biggest clue to the root of your problems. You have a ton of corrosion in there which can cause all sorts of problems from shorting circuits out like you mentioned (the smoking circuits) as well as causing intermittent connections like what your wife noticed when following you. You need to thoroughly clean the connector to rid it of all of the corrosion that you have or replace the connector with a new 7-way like # HM48480 which will give you the easiest solution.

Yep! All you'd need instead is the part # 20135 and you'd have an easy to install 7-way and 4-way replacement confirmed to fit your 2000 Dodge Ram 1500.
