What Is Needed To Install the SMI Stay-IN-Play On a 2014 Jeep Wrangler
Question:
I have been flat towing my 2014 jk jeep wrangler for a few years with your bx1126 base plate,bx7365 tow bar,and a mopar tow harness on a 7 to 6 way trailer cable with no problems, very easy! I would like to add your smi 99251 braking system but i am little confused about all the talk about battery disconnects, charge cables, auxiliary brake light switches, and diodes. How many parts do i have to buy after buying the smi 99251 system ? and will it work with the mopar harness. thanks! PS. my blue ox equipment has worked flawless !

In order to install the SMI Stay-IN-Play DUO Supplemental Braking System part # SM99251 on your 2014 Jeep Wrangler the only thing that is required will be the RoadMaster Stop Light Switch Kit part # RM-751452. There is a monitor light that comes with the SMI Stay-IN-Play that gets mounted in the windshield of your toad so you can see in the mirrors of your motorhome when the brakes are being applied on the toad. The monitor light works by tapping into the stop light switch circuit on your Jeep. The issues with your particular vehicle and why the above kit is required is because this circuit goes dead while in tow mode.
In regards to the Roadmaster Battery Charge Line Kit for Towed Vehicles part # RM-156-25, this is to help ensure the battery in your toad does not go dead as the SMI Stay-IN-Play will be drawing power from this. It is not a guarantee it will kill your battery after every trip as it depends on the duration but it is a good idea to have and it's pretty cost effective. There is an open pin on your umbilical cord for this as well.
In regards to the battery disconnect, this is actually recommend by your owner's manual to prevent battery drain. It has little to nothing to do with the SMI Stay-IN-Play. The battery can be disconnected either manually each time or by using the Roadmaster Automatic Battery Disconnect with Switch part # RM-766.
