Can the Trunk On a 2014 Volkswagen Jetta SportWagen Be Opened With Trunk Bike Rack Installed
Question:
I have seen the “no” answer on opening sedan trunks with the rack attached, but what about my Jettawagen? Since my son will bike to school, I might be putting the rack on and off my car 4 days a week if I can’t open the back with the tack attached.

It is not recommended to open the hatch/trunk with a trunk mounted bike rack like the Saris Bones 2 Bike Carrier part # SA805BL on any vehicle which includes your 2014 Volkswagen Jetta SportWagen. The shocks are not designed to hold the extra weight of the rack even without bikes attached and you could also run into clearance issues.
If you will be removing the bike rack several times a week then the Thule OutWay 2-Bike Rack part # TH45JV will be a better choice because it has only 2 rubber coated straps which make this process much faster and easier. Otherwise, a trailer hitch and hitch mounted bike rack will be your best option. If you are interested, I recommend the Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver part # C11474 and the Thule Camber 2 Bike Rack part # TH9058.
