Can OIder Thule Bike Rack Be Upgraded to Prevent Bikes From Hitting Each Other

Question:

The cradles on my rack are loose and the bikes move around too much. I saw a newer Thule rack with better cradles as well as anti sway devices. The arms on my Thule rack are 1” diameter. Can you suggest which parts will work better than what I have now?

Expert Reply:

Since the arms of your Thule bike rack are 1 inch in diameter you can upgrade them a new style of frame cradle that has anti-sway cages which will limit the movement of the bikes on the rack. For that you'd want the cradle part # 853-7887 for the cradle, part # 853-7758 for the cages, and part # 852-3006-001 for the straps. The same straps are used on the cage as the cradle. So for each bike you'd need two cradles, one cage, and three straps.
