How to Reduce Play and Rattle in Demco Recon Gooseneck-to-5th Wheel Trailer Hitch Adapter

Question:

When I installed this Demco Recon hitch using the exact specs they said it slides back and forth on my truck bed about 1/2 inch which makes quite a lot of noise when stopping and then starting out. Have u heard any one else asking this question?

The only cause for the start/stop noise that I can think of is that the bolt shown in the linked photo has not been tightened down properly. This would explain the small amount of play. Please refer to the linked instructions for details. Keep in mind that this single bolt is for the older version. The newer one has two bolts.

Demco makes two versions of their Recon Gooseneck-to-5th Wheel Trailer Hitch Adapter, parts # DM8550045 and # DM8550046. Part # DM8550045 is made to fit on a 2-5/16-inch gooseneck ball in a standard pickup and part # DM8550046 is made to fit on a recessed ball on a flat bed truck.

Both versions have built-in dampeners help reduce noise and absorb road shock as well as a steel locking bar that reinforces the connection between the hitch jaws and the trailer king pin.
