LED Light On Curt Echo Not Lighting Up Or Pairing To Phone
Question:
On my recent attempt to use my controller while towing, the LED doesnt light up and I am not able to pair it with my phone, however trailer lights are working with no trailer battery. Power seems to be going through controller to trailer, however the device seems not to work.

When the LED light on the Curt Echo part # C51180 does not illuminate that means the brake controller is not getting power from the 12V pin or the ground is bad. On a 7-way trailer connector, the 12V power function does not need to be connected for the other functions such as clearance lights, taillights, stop and turn lights to work properly so it makes sense that your trailer lights are still working properly. The Echo does need 12V power from the 7-way and will not pair to the phone or work until it has adequate power.
The first step is to check the pins on the vehicle's connector for corrosion or dirt. The 12V pin may not be sending power through the Echo if the pins are corroded or dirty.
If the pins are clean, you want to test the 12V pin on your vehicle's 7-way with a circuit tester like part # PTW2993 to ensure it is getting power. I have attached a photo that shows the pin positions on a standard vehicle's 7-way. You also want to check the ground on the vehicle 7-way to make sure it is grounded to a clean bare metal surface. If the 12V pin is getting power, then there may be an issue with the Echo.
If the 12V pin is not showing power and the vehicle is equipped with a factory 7-Way, then there should be a fuse dedicated to the 12V pin circuit inside the main fuse block under the hood. Since I do not know have your vehicle information, you want to check your copy of the owner's manual for its location and see if it needs to be replaced.
If the fuse does not need to be replaced, then you can manually run a power wire with 10-gauge wire like part # 10-1-1 from the 7-way to the vehicle's battery with a 40 amp in-line circuit breaker part # 9510 as a last resort.

Having the same problem. I get trailer lights with the echo controller plugged in, but no led light or able to connect to app. When I plug the controller into other vehicles, the light comes on just fine. I took my car into the dealership today, and they told me theres nothing wrong with my 7-way pin and that its testing with full power. Not sure what to make of this, but quite frustrated. Im putting my money on a bad technician at the dealer, maybe ill have to take it somewhere else. If you have any other ideas, please let me know.
