How to Hardwire Hopkins Smart Hitch Backup Camera HM50002
Question:
steps to hardwire the backup camera

Expert Reply:
Hopkins Smart Hitch Backup Camera # HM50002 is made with a plug-in 7-way connector to provide the reverse light signal to trigger it, but it can still be hardwired. The red wire on the Hopkins needs to connect to the vehicle reverse light circuit; the black wire connects to the reverse light ground. You'll need 2 quick-splice connectors # SWC502905-1.
You can find the reverse light wire by removing a tail light and tracing the wires to that bulb or you can use a circuit tester like # PTW2992 to test the wires (carefully, while a helper shifts the vehicle into reverse with the brake pedal and emergency brake both engaged). This hardwired hookup will activate the camera when you shift the vehicle into reverse.
