Are new brake drums required when replacing the brake assemblies on Dexter 7k axles? Thanks

If the hub/drums are in good shape there's no need to replace them when doing new assemblies like the part # 23-465 and # 23-464 which are the correct self adjusting brake assemblies for a 7k Dexter axle.

Believe me I know how much of a pain a blown seal can be. Cleaning the shoes can be very tricky, and in some cases it can be impossible to get the shoes completely clean. We do recommend at the very least replacing the shoes, or just replacing the…

That appears to be a plug that the wires go through when passing from the inside of the assembly to the outside. It is present so that the wires do not get cut on the metal.
