Can Brake Controller Install on Truck with Two Different Trailer Wiring Connectors

Question:

Trailer plugs I have two on the rear bumper One is the round slotted kind the other is the flat kind. I believe this truck was used as a car hauler. I have an electric trailer brake controller but is cheaper model. And want a better one. I’m pulling a 32’ keystone two axle with round slotted plug

Sounds like your truck has a 7-way and a 4-way trailer connector which is a very common setup. The 7-way is the connector that will carry the brake output circuit. The 4-way (the flat one) does not carry the brake signal. The 4-way only carries the taillight circuits but it does share those with the 7-way too.

Since you have a brake controller now and are wanting a better one the Prodigy P3 part # 90195 that you referenced would be a great option and an easy upgrade. You would just need to wire the controller's four blunt cut wires to the same color wires on your truck and the controller will be wired up and ready to go.
