How To Install a 7-Way on a 1996 Chevrolet Suburban

Question:

Okay, I have read some of the previous replies concerning this very same topic, but still need some additional clarification. I have a 1996 Chevy Suburban, and I am getting ready to upgrade the trailer wiring harness and connector. Already ordered several parts from eTrailer, including a T-connector and the Curt # C57672 4-way to 7-way RV plug-in. I have located the signal/light/4 wire harness, no problem, and also the separate orange and blue wires. These 2 wires are folded over and wrapped far back, and I have not cut them - however by using a 12V circuit tester I am getting no current. Meanwhile under the hood I have found the same orange/blue wire combo, on the engine block near the fuse compartment. It also seems to be very wrapped upinch with no loose ends easily pulling out. I dont see these wires connected to either POLE A or POLE B, but the 30 AMP auxiliary fuses are good and not blown. Dont know it the orange/blue combo connects somewhere below the hood fuse compartment or not as it is very hard to see. I am only guessing that this orange/blue circuit is just not connected. My question is: Am I supposed to dig out these wires somehow in order to connect them? or try to cut and splice them in some way to get the remaining distance to the fuse compartment?? How would I do that? I dont have the1996 Suburban Owners Manual, but just ordered one - so maybe that might help. Meanwhile: what confuses me is that the previous owner had told me that the trailer wiring hook-up worked fine, and that he had pulled trailers before with no problem. Again... testing the 12V current at the rear of the vehicle showed no current at all, and I even tried the test with the ignition key in the ON position, and also with engine fully running. All rear lights, back-ups, signals, and brake lights work correctly, so the smaller 4-way harness is not the problem. Please advise. I can also send photos if that will help you. Thanks,

The blue brake output and orange 12 volt power wires are already ran on your 1996 Chevrolet Suburban however, as you suspected they are not yet connected. The rearmost point of the wires near the trailer hitch will need to be connected to the 7-way. Once the rearmost point of the wires are secured to the 7-way you will then need to connect the forwardmost point of the wires to the brake controller and 12 volt power. The forwardmost wires will end in a gray connector under the brake booster. The wires will need to be cut free from the connector and you will then drill a hole into the firewall. Once the hole is drilled route the blue wire though into the cab with a grommet part # SWC8057 and then the orange wire gets attached to the post on the fuse block with part # DW05705-1 and part # 185917. If you take a look at the attached review video you can see all of the above completed.
